Daniel 6:26b-27 NIV 2011
“For he is the living God and endures forever; his kingdom will not be destroyed, and his dominion will never end. He rescues and he saves; he performs signs and wonders in the heavens and on the earth. He has rescued Daniel from the power of the lions.”
Daniel is the implied author of the book with his name found in Daniel 9:2a, “in the first year of his reign, I, Daniel, understood from the Scriptures.” The theme of this book is found in 4:17b, “The Most High is sovereign over all kingdoms on earth.” After surviving a night in the lion’s den, Daniel answered King Darius in 6:22, “My God sent his angel, and he shut the mouths of the lions.” Daniel’s spared life vividly illustrates God’s sovereign power surrounds everything under heaven.
Having stood at the Wailing Wall in the Old City of Jerusalem as well as on Mount Nebo in Jordan, I too can affirm Daniel’s statement: “The Most High is sovereign over all kingdoms on earth.” After more than 3400 years the mountain Moses stood upon to see the Promised Land but never entered continues to stand today. The temple built after the Jews returned from Babylonian captivity but destroyed in 60AD was found after excavations began in Jerusalem’s Old City. Just as God spared Daniel’s life he spares pieces of Biblical history by his sovereign power.
What are the ways we see his sovereign power daily?
Securely surrounded by Him,
