Acts 13:38-39 NIV 2011
“Therefore, my friends, I want you to know that through Jesus the forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you. Through him everyone who believes is set free from every sin, a justification you were not able to obtain under the law of Moses.”
Paul completed his words in the synagogue encouraging the faithful with his Gospel message and a quote from Habakkuk in verse 41. Luke spoke of the same forgiveness. Luke 24:47a, “and repentance for the forgiveness of sins will be preached in his name to all nations.” Justification is both forgiveness of sins received through Jesus Christ sacrificial death and the righteousness Paul wrote in his letter to the Romans. Romans 3:21, “But now apart from the law righteousness of God has been made known, to which the Law and the Prophets testify.” To receive God’s forgiveness we must believe in Jesus Christ.
Romans 3:23, “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” shows us we are all sinners in need of a Savior. There are times when I can forgive and move on immediately. And there have been times when I want to wrap myself in the hurt I feel before I move on to forgiveness. I am a work in progress. In my head I know I need to forgive others but sometimes my heart will not follow. I run to Him for help daily because as His I am forgiven.
How do we forgive?
