Psalm 127:1-2 NIV 2011
Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain. Unless the Lord watches over the city, the guards stand watch in vain. In vain you rise early and stay up late, toiling for food to eat—for he grants sleep to those he loves.
This psalm was ascribed to Solomon though not everyone agrees he wrote it. A short four-verse psalm contains godly wisdom about living lives in ancient Israel as well as today. God constructs places that are safe for His people. Psalm 78:69, “He built his sanctuary like the heights, like the earth that he established forever.” He is aware of all movement. Psalm 121:3, “He will not let your foot slip—he who watches over you will not slumber.” The Lord gives His people rest. Deuteronomy 33:12, “the one the Lord loves rests between his shoulders.” God shelters, secures and sustains His people.
Up after an awesome rest last night, I walked early. At lunch this afternoon with a dear sister-in-Christ I could feel the Lord was present. The sweet fellowship we shared, praying over our food and being able to connect after five months He joined us today for lunch. We’ve built our friendship on Jesus Christ. He has remained close to both of us while we were apart. Those relationships I build on the Lord are safe and secure. Our God shelters, secures and sustains me daily.
What keeps us from experiencing God’s comprehensive care?
Sustained by God,
