Psalm 34:3-4, 6 NIV 2011
Glorify the Lord with me; let us exalt his name together. I sought the Lord, and he answered me; he delivered me from all my fears.
This poor man called, and the Lord heard him; he saved him out of all his troubles.
This Psalm shows David’s complete faith and trust in the Lord. He praised the Lord. Psalm 34:1, “I will extol the Lord at all times; his praise will always be on my lips.” He was fearful when he faced a Philistine king while fleeing from Saul. 1 Samuel 21:12, “David took these words to heart and was very much afraid…So he presented to be insane…” David knew God’s goodness was present at all times in his life. He understood when he praised God his fears diminished. Seeking the Lord’s help daily fear can be overcome.
I’ve learned that my faith puts God between me and whatever I may fear. My pastor yesterday said, “When we look to God we are filled with joy. Fear traps us but God frees us.” That was a powerful statement. I must remember the Lord will deliver me from whatever comes my way. I’ve walked through some rough places but He has always been right beside me. When I remember those times, my focus returns to Him because he’s always delivered me. By seeking him daily I can overcome my fears.
How will we praise the Lord and face our fears today?
