Matthew 5:48, Luke 6:36, Ephesians 5:1, Peter 1:16 NIV 2011
“Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.”
“Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.”
Follow God’s example, therefore, as dearly loved children.
For it is written, “Be holy, because I am holy.”
Christ challenged the people gathered to perfect their love for one another. Matthew 5:44, “But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.” Christ called them to reflect God’s mercy toward others. Matthew 5:7, “Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.” Paul held Christ as God’s high standard. Ephesians 4:32, “Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.” The Apostle Peter quoted Leviticus 11:44, “and be holy, because I am holy.” Those who love the Lord are called to follow God’s perfect holy standard.
Jesus, Paul and Peter were all “singing out of the same hymnal.” God’s Word contains the same information from Genesis to Revelation. God’s standard is perfection. As a sinful human being, I’m far from that. But I am commanded to follow His standard in word and deed. I reached out to two sisters-in-Christ to partner in prayer with me over the summer and have used them twice already. Fellowship and prayer keep me focused on our Holy God daily. I love the Lord and He called me to follow His perfect holy standard.
How is God calling you today?
Following God’s example together,
