1 Corinthians 9:24, 2 Timothy 4:7 NIV 2011
Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize.
I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.
Paul wrote his letters as encouragement for believers to continue to move forward in faith. He used running as his metaphor motivating them to never stop. Galatians 5:7, “You were running a good race. Who cut in on you to keep you from obeying the truth?” The prize was found in a life led for Jesus Christ. Philippians 3:14, “I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.” Paul reminded Timothy to finish strong. God calls His faithful to finish the race.
I’ve tried on many different occasions to be a runner. I thought the Couch to 5K app was the answer. I failed three times and never got past week six. The best way is for me to walk every day at least 13,000 steps. That’s how I move toward the goal of being active. Writing daily keeps me in His Word and focused on Him. Prayer meeting on Wednesday nights and worship service on Sunday are more opportunities to remain steadfast in my faith. God has called me to finish the race.
How do we focus on the race set before us?
