Luke 22:42-44 NIV 2011
“Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will but yours be done.” An angel from heaven appeared to him and strengthened him. And being in anguish, he prayed more earnestly, and his sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground.”
Jesus prayed in the Garden of Gethsemane. He knew He was going to suffer but not for anything He’d ever done. Matthew 26:39, “Going a little further, he fell with his face to the ground and prayed, ‘My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not my will, but as you will.’” He was obedient and strengthened by an angel. Matthew 4:11, “and angels came and attended him.” With anguish and suffering ahead, obediently He walked to the cross to save sinners. Obediently following the Father reveals His will.
There have been times in my past when looking at the road ahead, I wondered if I was able to keep on keeping on. Though I’ve never known the anguish and suffering that Jesus bore for my sins, sometimes the road ahead can look daunting. Jesus’ walk daily shows me how to be obedient. Jesus modeled obedience in everything He did. John 14:13, “And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son.” Obediently following the Father and His will.
How will we remember loving God is obeying Him?
Obediently following God,
