Deuteronomy 7:9, Psalm 100:3 NIV 2011
Know therefore that the Lord your God is God; he is the faithful God, keeping his covenant of love to a thousand generations of those who love him and keep his commandments.
Know that the Lord is God.
Moses knew God loved His people because they were His. He loved them because He made a promise to Abraham. Genesis 22:17, “I will surely bless you and make your descendants as numerous as the stars…” The psalms reveal God’s faithfulness and honesty. Psalm 33:4, “For the word of the Lord is right and true; he is faithful in all he does.” Psalm 18:25, “To the faithful you show yourself faithful, to the blameless you show yourself blameless.” Psalm 111:7, “The works of his hands are faithful and just; all his precepts are trustworthy.” Psalm 19:7b, “The statutes of the Lord are trustworthy.” The Lord God is faithful and true.
After looking through Merriam Webster’s definitions and synonyms for faithful, “true to the facts or to a standard” was my favorite. Only God can be truly faithful. He never changes and set the plumb line at creation. We change daily at least I think I do. God is still the same. As an imperfect sinner, striving to be faithful isn’t easy. I’m not where I was at 18 or where I will be at my passing. I’m thankful the Lord God is faithful and true.
