Isaiah 64:7-8 NIV 2011
No one calls on your name or strives to lay hold of you; for you have hidden your face from us and have given us over to our sins.
Yet you, Lord, are our Father. We are the clay, you are the potter; we are all the work of your hand.
God’s people deserted Him. He wanted the people to repent and return to Him. Holy God called Isaiah as His messenger to Judah. Isaiah 59:4, “No one calls for justice; no one pleads a case with integrity.” God was not with His people and hid His face. Deuteronomy 31:18, “And I will certainly hide my face.” Isaiah knew God would return if and when the people returned to Him. 2 Chronicles 7:14, “If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray…” God is glorified through utter dependence on Him.
It’s more than likely the people of Judah regretted their abject lack of faith in the Lord prior to the Babylonian’s conquest. Isaiah spoke to them over and over again about turning from the Lord. How many times have I decided to go my own way rather than that of the Lord’s? Ecclesiastes 1:9 ends with, “There is nothing new under the sun.” I’m no different from those that Isaiah spoke. I have the opportunity to learn from the past. I can daily repent and return in utter dependence on Him.
How is God molding us today?
Sinners repenting together,
