Psalm 71:17-18 NIV 2011
Since my youth, God, you have taught me, and to this day I declare your marvelous deeds. Even when I am old and gray do not forsake me, my God, till I declare your power to the next generation, your mighty acts to all who are to come.
Psalm 71 is credited to no specific author or any introduction. Some commentators believe Psalm 70, of David, is an introduction Psalm 71 which is followed by Psalm 72, of Solomon. This is a prayer asking for help in a persons waning years which begins much the same as Psalm 31:1-4 of David. He reflects on God’s saving power because of the author’s great trust from childhood in God. He continually proclaimed God’s “marvelous deeds.” He desired to share the Lord’s power and might that he had experienced all his life. He prayed God would use him. Sharing God’s Truth has no expiration date.
I’m thankful I did not come with an expiration date. Living would be like trying to beat the clock every day. The Psalter’s words are humbling and encouraging knowing he knew God from his youth. He was willing to proclaim God’s saving power even when “old and gray.” God guards, guides and protects me through all life’s highs and lows. He is my protector. Daily I will remember; God has called me as well as His faithful to share His Truth.
How does God protect and guide His faithful?
Sharing His Truth together,
