2 Samuel 12:13-14 NIV 2011
Then David said to Nathan, “I have sinned against the Lord.”
Nathan replied, “The Lord has taken away your sin. You are not going to die. But because by doing this you have shown utter contempt for the Lord, the son born to you will die.”
2 Samuel 11:1, “In the spring, at the time when kings go off to war, David sent Joab out with the king’s men…” David chose to stay home by sending someone in his place. He saw and wanted Bathsheba. God sent Nathan to confront David with the secret sin he had committed. David confessed his sin against the Lord and Nathan pronounced his sin forgiven. Because of David’s desire for another man’s wife, David would suffer. His blatant selfish choice brought death to the son conceived with Bathsheba in sin. There are inescapable consequences of sin. God graciously forgives repentant sinners.
Have you ever had someone say, “Idol hands are the devil’s workshop” in your life time? I have. The first time I read through 2 Samuel, I was amazed when I read the story of David and Bathsheba. Too much time on his hands David made some very poor choices. The same is true of me daily. When I keep myself busy studying God’s Word, there’s less time spent trying to find other entertainment. Sinful behavior does have consequences. I’m so thankful the Lord forgives my sin when I repent.
What sins are weighing heavy today?
Repentant and forgiven,
