James 1:17-18 NIV 2011
Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. He chose to give us birth through the word of truth that we might be a kind of firstfruits of all he created.
A leader of the Jerusalem church, James wrote his letter to believers. He consistently drove home his message; Christians are helpers shining the Light of the Lord. The source of all wisdom is the Father. He gives believers wisdom. James 3:17, “But wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure.” God created and gives all things. John 3:27, “To this John replied, ‘A person can receive only what is given them from heaven.’” God is the Father. Psalm 84:11, “For the Lord God is the sun and the shield.” Grace comes as a gift from the Father.
Above the clouds at 37,000 feet, we are off to give gifts to our Seattle area family. These are physical gifts but nowhere close to the spiritual gifts the Father offers me daily. Thinking of the amazing gift I received at salvation, all other gifts pale in comparison. Our oldest daughter is focused on giving the gift of salvation to a neighbor and friend we’ve all known since 1976. In the end stages of cancer, sharing the Gospel is the greatest gift she will give. My Father’s grace is a gift.
What eternal gifts are we giving?
