Luke 21:2-4 NIV 2011
He also saw a poor widow put in two very small copper coins. “Truly I tell you,” he said, “this poor widow has put in more than all the others. All these people gave their gifts out of their wealth; but she out of her poverty put in all she had to live on.”
Jesus watched as people placed their offering into the temple treasury. Mark 12:41, “Jesus sat down opposite the place where the offerings were put and watched the crowd putting their money into the temple treasury. Many rich people threw in large amounts.” Jesus observed some give what helped them look good while others gave with willing hearts. 2 Corinthians 8:12, “For if the willingness is there, the gift is acceptable according to what one has, not according to what one does not have.” Faithful believers give with willing hearts.
Mark and Luke alone record this information about a widow’s offering. Giving to the church was important as I grew up. The first time I baby sat for money, my dad said it would be appropriate to give ten percent to the church. He showed me Scripture in God’s Word about tithing a tenth found in Genesis 28:20-22. He planted a seed by living it out. My parents were willing to tithe both time and money to the church. My heart is willing to give following their faithful model.
What are we willing to give to the Lord daily?
