Psalm 18:33-35

He makes my feet like the feet of a deer; he causes me to stand on the heights.

He trains my hands for battle; my arms can bend a bow of bronze.

You make your saving help my shield, and your right hand sustains me; your help has made me great.

A Psalm of David also found in 2 Samuel 22. He recounts God’s help when he was under threat from powerful enemies by strengthening him. Psalm 42:1, “As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, my God.” God was David’s portion as He was for those that came before him. Psalm 144:1, “Praise be to the Lord my Rock, who trains my hands for war, my fingers for battle.” God gently led David to greatness. Psalm 54:4, “Surely God is my help; the Lord is the one who sustains me.” God gently guides His faithful to greatness.

David was a man after God’s own heart. He is mentioned in Jesus’ genealogy, Matthew 1:6. A king of greatness, his psalms reveal his gentleness. Looking at David’s gentleness causes me to consider how I can soften my approach with others. It’s easy to get down to the level of a one year old and softly lead them. There are times when I feel inadequate to handle tricky situations. By reading His Word daily, God gently guides me to greatness for His glory.

How is He gently guiding you to greatness?

Gratefully God’s,
