Ephesians 2:19-21 NIV 2011
Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and strangers, but fellow citizens with God’s people and also members of his household, built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone. In him the whole building is joined together and rises to become a holy temple in the Lord.
What Paul began in verse eleven is concluded in verses 19-22; salvation reconciled Jew and Gentile. At the cross all who come to Christ are one. Philippians 3:20, “But our citizenship is in heaven.” This was not their home. “Members of his household” denotes all are part of the family of God. Psalm 118:22, “The stone you builders rejected has become the cornerstone.” Jesus, the cornerstone, is the foundation upon which God’s people build their lives. 1 Corinthians 3:16, “Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple.” Followers of Jesus joining together become a holy temple in the Lord.
Worshiping the first time in New Albany, I found an amazing church filled with followers of Jesus. Through daily prayer and attending for over a year, I knew this was my church. Listening to preaching from God’s Word each week strengthens my foundation. Volunteering in different capacities connects me with others in the congregation. I have never had a feeling of being a stranger or foreigner while there. Everyone brings unique abilities in serving. We all join together as His holy temple.
Who helps strengthen our foundation?
