1 Corinthians 1:2-3 NIV 2011
To the church of God in Corinth, to those sanctified in Christ Jesus and called to be his holy people, together with all those everywhere who call on the name of our Lord Jesus Christ—their Lord and ours: Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
Paul’s letter was written referring to the church at Corinth: “the church of God.” Luke used that same description. Acts 20:28b, “Be shepherds of the church of God, which he bought with his own blood.” The Corinthian believers were sanctified in Christ to serve by faith. Because they were set apart they were indeed God’s holy people called to share Jesus. Acts 2:21, “And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved!” God grants grace and peace to all those sanctified in Christ Jesus.
Being set apart has always been a bit unsettling for me. I’d prefer to blend in and not stand out. But as a follower of Jesus Christ, I’ve come to terms with being set apart. God prefers I stand out. He wants His Light to shine through me. One of the favorite sayings in the 1980’s was, “We need to get out of the salt shaker.” I need to be God’s Light while salting the world. I’m sanctified in Christ and God daily gives me grace and peace.
How do others see you’re set apart in Christ?
Abounding in God’s grace and peace,
