John 14:26-27a and c NIV 2011

“But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. Peace I leave with you, my peace I give you. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”

John shared Jesus words of encouragement with the disciples. They were concerned with Jesus’ departure and wanted to follow Him. Jesus told them He is the way to the Father and God the Father would send the Advocate. Jesus’ use of this word is found several times in John’s gospel. The Holy Spirit would be with them and all believers upon Jesus’ eventual departure. “Total well-being and inner rest of spirit” belong to those who follow Christ. The Holy Spirit is the source of peace for believers wrapped in God’s divine gift of salvation.

The past six months have seen many changes in the world in which we live. I see the sun still rises daily and the earth keeps turning on its axis’s. The Holy Spirit continues to calm any fears that begin to take root in my heart. One thing is crystal clear to me; God is still on the throne. It makes me ponder, “What does the rest of the world do during these rough times?” Thankfully I’m grounded in His Word and daily the Holy Spirit brings me His peace.

How do we seek His peace?

At peace,
