Romans 6:19, 23 NIV 2011
I am using an example from everyday life because of your human limitation. Just as you used to offer yourselves as slaves to impurity and to ever-increasing wickedness, so now offer yourselves as slaves to righteousness leading to holiness.
For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Paul continued his presentation of the Gospel: God’s plan of salvation for all whether Jew or Gentile. He further delineated the change from being slaves to sin to being willing slaves to righteousness. While not in fact slaves to Christ, which is an imperfect analogy, believers are truly free in Christ. He contrasts servitude as death for all or eternal life as the result for those who have receive God’s gift of eternal life. Eternal life by faith in Christ is God’s gift to believers who follow Emanuel.
Before deciding to follow Jesus, we are all slaves to sin. The day He saved me, I was set free from of sin through Jesus’ shed blood. I’m not now nor will I ever be perfect. Because I’m His, daily I will remain in Him not bound by sin. Jesus said in John 14:6, “I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” Knowing Immanuel/Emanuel assures me God is with us. I’ve been promised eternal life because I’m His.
How will we share Jesus today?
