Romans 12:14-16 NIV 2011

Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn. Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position. Do not be conceited.

Paul wrote to the church in Rome to put their love for others into action in the community. He gave much the same teaching Jesus did. Matthew 5:44, “But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.” He called the faithful to share in both the good times and the hard ones because it is actually a privilege and the responsibility of the called. Believers must stand with fellow believers no matter what their status. Humility is a hallmark of believers as they walk with Christ. Jesus is to be Lord of every area of life in those who follow Him.

I recall the times our baby girls and our grands slept peacefully on my chest. It’s a picture I have when I think of resting in Jesus by choosing to rest quietly in His arms. Allowing God’s Word to permeate every aspect of my life has caused me to walk much closer beside Him. That closeness gives me the ability to walk beside others who may be struggling or just lonely. It’s my choice to daily make Him Lord of every area of my life.

Where will we walk today?

He’s Lord of our lives,
