John 12:37-38 NIV 2011
Even after Jesus had performed so many signs in their presence, they still would not believe in him. That was to fulfill the word of Isaiah the prophet: “Lord, who has believed our message and to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?”
The first recorded “sign” by the Apostle John is found in John 2:11. “What Jesus did here in Cana of Galilee was the first of the signs through which he revealed his glory; and his disciples believed in him.” Those steeped in the Hebrew Bible knew Scripture and the prophecy of Isaiah. Yet they chose not to see or believe Jesus was Messiah. John quoted Isaiah 52:1 and his prophecy. Paul wrote the same to the Romans, 10:18, “But not all the Israelites accepted the good news. For Isaiah says, ‘Lord who has believed our message?’” Those who give their hearts to Jesus, do so by faith alone.
We are without excuse having both the Old and New Testament; God’s Word is true. The more I study the Bible the greater my appetite grows to plumb the depths of His Word. Reading commentaries offers me scholarly interpretation of Scripture. Breaking down verses helps me understand God’s Truths hidden there. I never want to be “that” person that knows so much that I miss what is hidden there. Writing daily reinforces my walk. My faith grows through studying God’s Word.
How do we walk by faith alone?
