Philippians 3:3-4 NIV 2011
For it is we who are the circumcision, we who serve God by his Spirit, who boast in Christ Jesus, and who put no confidence in the flesh—though I myself have reasons for such confidence.
Paul wrote to the church in Philippi out of concern for them possibly wandering in their walk with Jesus. Philippians 3:1, “Further, my brothers and sisters, rejoice in the Lord!” With their eyes faithfully focused on Jesus, they would walk steadfastly with the Lord. Their circumcision was not physical but realized only by those whose hearts were changed by Jesus. Colossians 2:11b, “Your whole self ruled by the flesh was put off when you were circumcised by Christ.” Saved, they relied on Jesus. Romans 15:17, “Therefore I glory in Christ Jesus in my service to God.” The Holy Spirit guided Paul. Saved sinners receive hearts circumcised by Jesus to serve God.
The favorite past time of many parents is bragging about their children. I can remember friends in college bragging about the grades they got each quarter. But how many brag about their life with Jesus Christ? Paul challenged the church planted in Philippi to share the Gospel. That’s what I need to do daily, brag about Jesus and how He’s changed my life. The Holy Spirit guides me as I share how He’s at work in my life. I’ve got a heart circumcised by Jesus serving God.
How does bragging about Jesus reveal circumcised hearts?
