Exodus 18:17-18 NIV 2011
Moses’ father-in-law replied, “What you are doing is not good. You and these people who come to you will only wear yourselves out. The work is too heavy for you; you cannot handle it alone.
Moses was God’s choice to lead the Hebrews out of Egypt to the Promised Land. They moved by day and rested at night. He was their leader and judge. Exodus 18:13, “The next day Moses took his seat to serve as judge for the people, and they stood around him from morning til evening.” Jethro, Moses’ father-in-law, pointed him to God. Exodus 18:20, “Teach them his decrees and instructions, and show them the way they are to live and how they are to behave.” God gives godly men and women wise council to encourage and guide those called to lead.
Have you ever been on the verge of burn out when someone comes along side you with godly council? I’ve been the recipient of that more times than I can count. When I studied Moses in depth, I saw how God used His people to guide Moses. I’ve never led a nation through the wasteland for forty years but I’ve experienced being in that wasteland. Godly friends were the ones that pointed me back to the One in charge. I daily surrounded myself with them and seek their godly wisdom.
Where do we turn when we walk through the wastelands of life?
Led by Him,
