2 Timothy 2:22-23 NIV 2011
Flee the evil desires of youth and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace along with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart. Don’t have anything to do with foolish and stupid arguments, because you know they produce quarrels.
Paul’s letter to Timothy was written to encourage him as he led the church in Ephesus. Though Timothy was young, his age was not to stand in his way of speaking boldly about the Lord. 1 Timothy 4:12, “Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity.” Stand firm in his faith and remain focused on the Lord’s call, no person or thing was to stand in his way of sharing the Good News. Focusing firmly on the Father fortifies the faithful.
God’s Word offered a strategic retreat. Paul tells me to flee and I can fill in all the blanks with a multitude of words that follow the word flee. It’s amazing how little I need to flee when I remain at home. But I’m unable to shine His Light when I remain between the walls of my own home. Eliminating people that might lead me astray is easy however I’m called to share Jesus with those who don’t know Him yet. Focused on the Father daily, I remain faithful.
What temptations need to be fled?
