God is Father

Matthew 5:44-45 NIV 2011

But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be children of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.

Jesus’ words spoken to the crowd gathered, possibly during the Sermon on the Mount, offers the people a diverse perspective toward those that fail to treat God’s people well. By loving their enemies they were reflecting God’s love. Prayer is the key as it is the way love flows from the heart of those who know God. Luke 23:34, “Father forgive them for they do not know what they are doing.” Jesus turned to the Father at the end of His life. Paul echo’s Jesus’ words in Romans 6:14, “For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God.” God is Father.

Jesus used the word “Abba” which is Aramaic for father. At salvation, we are adopted into the family of God and can call Him “Abba” Father. Paul in Roman’s 8:15 uses the same word, “And by him we cry, ‘Abba, Father.’” As a believer I’m not only a child of the King but I can call Him Father. My dad knew me best. His passing has helped me appreciate the Father actually knows me best. In my daily walk with Him, He is my Father.

How do you see God is Father?

His children,

S
