Genesis 3:4-5 NIV 2011
“You will not certainly die,” the serpent said to the woman. “For God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”
The Garden of Eden was a beautiful place created by God for Adam and Eve to live in a perfect relationship with Him. Satan took the form a wily serpent posing questions to Eve. Genesis 3:1b, “Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden?” His questions were cunning and craftily worded. He was a deceiver. God specifically stated the one tree they were to leave alone. Genesis 2:17, “But you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat from it you will certainly die.” Tempted, Adam and Eve disobediently made sinful choices. Obedience to God steers sinners away from temptation and sin.
Resisting temptation: Pray, Matthew 6:13, “And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.” Resist, James 4:7, “Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” Flee, Genesis 39:12, “She caught him by his cloak and said, ‘Come to bed with me!’ But he left his cloak in her hand and ran out of the house.” Read James 1:12, God will bless those that obediently persevere. Obeying God steers me away from the Enemy.
