Philippians 2:1-2 NIV 2011
Therefore if you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any common sharing in the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in the spirit and of one mind.
Every saved sinner with a personal relationship with Christ is united in Christ. Romans 8:1, “therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.” God’s love is visible in Jesus death on the cross. 1 John 3:16, “This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters.” Being compassionate is having a Christ like mind. Colossians 3:12, “clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.” Christ encourages like-minded Christians to love one another.
Encouraging others doesn’t mean I need to go to some far away place to accomplish that. Paul’s letter told us that we are to love and be “one in the spirit and of one mind” with Christ. Instead of thinking globally, we each need to think locally. How will I share the Light of Christ by encouraging those in my family or friends in my neighborhood? Paul answered me stating: be tender and compassionate. That begins at home. Christ encourages me daily to love those around me.
Where is He encouraging you to love others?
Tender and compassionate,
