Mark 1:21-22 NIV 2011
They went to Capernaum, and when the Sabbath came, Jesus went into the synagogue and began to teach. The people were amazed at his teaching, because he taught them as one who had authority, not as the teachers of the Law.
Jesus and His disciples walked toward the Sea of Galilee to the city of Capernaum. The seventh day of the week was the day of rest. Genesis 2:3, “Then God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done.” Instead Jesus went to the place where Jews studied the Scriptures and worshipped God. He began to teach at the synagogue just as Paul and Barnabas did. Acts 14:1, “At Iconium Paul and Barnabas went as usual into the Jewish synagogue.” Jesus’ authority came from the Father. God’s Word draws believers closer to Him.
After spending time in God’s Word each day all the ways He’s been present in each moment become crystal clear. Jesus spoke to the people and they were amazed at His authoritative words. Reading God’s Word amazes me. Listening to last week’s sermon online, “Jesus is the Light of the world who will save us from dying in our sins” brought into focus my need to heed God’s Word. Pastor prayed we would read and apply Jesus’ Words to our lives. God’s Word draws me close to Him.
How has He drawn us closer today?
