Hebrews 3:13-14 NIV 2011
But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called “Today,” so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness. We have come to share in Christ, if indeed we hold our original conviction firmly to the very end.
Hebrew’s unknown author wrote to the Jewish Christians. Steeped in Jewish Law, they needed to make a paradigm shift. Each was called to follow the example of Christ. Hebrews 10:24, “And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds.” Christ came to replace the Law. Ephesians 4:22, “You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self…” They now belonged to Christ. Ephesians 3:12, “In him and through faith in him we may approach God with freedom and confidence.” Faith in Christ compels believers to encourage one another.
Romans 1:12, “that is, that you and I may be mutually encouraged by each other’s faith.” Like Paul, those that share faith in Jesus Christ daily encourage me. Pausing to take stock of what’s going on around me, helps me focus on the precise next steps to take. Time spent in fellowship with fellow believers has always buoyed my spirit. The New Testament is filled with those that encouraged fellow believers in need. It’s no different today. My faith in Christ compels me to encourage anyone that crosses my path.
