Psalm 121:5-8 NIV 2011

The Lord watches over you—the Lord is your shade at your right hand; the sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night. The Lord will keep you from all harm—he will watch over your life the Lord will watch over your coming and going, both now and forevermore.

This second Psalm of ascent was sung during the yearly religious trek to Jerusalem. To worship they traveled to Mt. Zion. Psalms 120-136 are referred to in the Jewish faith as the “Great Hallel.” After confessing trust and faith in the Lord the author continued enumerating the Lord’s countless attributes. The Lord was their shade whose watchful eye consistently and constantly was on them. Harm was kept at bay while God remained near to protect them. Peaceful lives follow those faithfully surrendered to the Father.

Nineteen years later I only know one person that had a family member perish in NYC on 9/11. Watching the coverage today brings back many memories. While my husband drove me to the airport to work the second of the Trade Center towers went down. I recall wondering what it must have been like for those that perished. For those that knew the Lord, He was right beside them as they walked into eternity. The Lord is with me daily watching over my coming and going. There is always peace when I’m faithfully surrendered to the Father.

What stops us from surrendering?

Together faithfully surrendered,
