Isaiah 58:11-12a NIV 2011
The Lord will guide you always; he will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land and will strengthen your frame.
You will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail.
Your people will rebuild the ancient ruins and rise up the age-old foundations.
The comfort Isaiah was able to offer to the Jews centered on God meeting their needs. God guided Jacob through a dream. Genesis 28:13, “There above it stood the Lord, and he said: ‘I am the Lord, the God of your father Abraham…I will give you and your descendants the land on which you are lying.’” Though the people were taken to Babylon, God would guide them physically and spiritually. Psalm 48:14, “For this God is our God for ever and ever; he will be our guide even to the end.” God satisfies and guides His people.
Where do I find comfort? Spending time daily in God’s Word has consistently brought me comfort. Some find comfort in alcohol, drugs or the newest craze of the day. I remember after my dad’s stroke, reading many passages from Isaiah to my mom. They calmed her and brought her much comfort. Reading God’s Word waters my soul giving me all I need to keep on keeping on. The Bible comes with a built in satisfaction guarantee. It reveals from Genesis to Revelation God watering His garden to satisfy and guide His people.
Where have you seen God’s guidance today?
