John 19:25-26 NIV 2011
Near the cross of Jesus stood his mother, his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene. When Jesus saw his mother there, and the disciple whom he loved standing nearby, he said to her, “Woman, here is your son.”
Mary watched while Jesus gave His life at the cross. Chosen by God to be Jesus’ mother, she was present at many of Jesus’ momentous life events. Matthew 12:46, “While Jesus was still talking to the crowd, his mother and brothers stood outside, wanting to speak to him.” Jesus was concerned for Mary’s wellbeing. John had a special bond with Jesus. John 13:23, “One of them, the disciple whom Jesus loved, was reclining next to him.” He received Mary as his responsibility. John 19:27b, “From that time on, this disciple took her into his home.” Jesus equips His people to care for one another.
Picturing Mary as a memory maker has always given me great comfort. She pondered all that happened at Jesus’ birth just as I recall my kiddo’s births. Mary equipped Jesus much like other women of her day did. My mother was a godly woman that equipped each of her children. Walking with our four-year old Mandi as she walked into eternity was only through Jesus. I am a whole person because a woman named Mary willingly gave birth to my Savior. Daily Jesus equips me to be His caring believer.
