James 1:13b-15 NIV 2011
For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone; but each person is tempted when they are dragged away by their own evil desire and enticed. Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.
A leader of the church in Jerusalem, James stated unequivocally God is holy and nothing sinful would appeal to Him. Genesis 22:1, “Some time later God tested Abraham.” God tests His own in order to confirm their faith. Exodus 20:20, “Moses said to the people, ‘Do not be afraid. God has come to test you…’” People sin. Jeremiah 17:9, “The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure.” What began in the Garden of Eden continues in stages today; desire, sin, death. Job 15:35, “They conceive trouble and give birth to evil; their womb fashions deceit.” The blood of Jesus Christ covers saved sinners.
God tested Abraham’s faith with Isaac and he passed the test. He tested the Israelites in the desert and they failed many times. Walking by faith is a step-by-step process. Many of us desire to be in control of what’s happening. That is when sin slips into our everyday lives. God desires we walk faithfully beside Him even during difficult times. Sin daily separates all humans from having a relationship with the Father. At salvation that separation is removed through Jesus Christ.
How will we avoid temptation today?
