Psalm 34:19-20, 22 NIV 2011
The righteous person may have many troubles, but the Lord delivers him from them all; he protects all his bones, not one of them will be broken.
The Lord will rescue his servants; no one who takes refuge in him will be condemned.
David revealed God was His deliverer. He served God as a righteous man. David felt God’s unfailing presence even when the wicked surrounded him. Psalm 34:17, “The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears them; he delivers them from their troubles.” John ended Righteous Jesus’ death and crucifixion description quoting verse 20. John 19:36, “These things happened so that the scripture would be fulfilled: ‘Not one of his bones will be broken.’” God rescued David as He continually rescues His people. Exodus 15:13a, “In your unfailing love you will lead the people you have redeemed.” God renews, rescues and redeems His faithful followers.
I’ve never experienced the peril that David faced. I do know my life may have daily challenges but the Lord is always there. The bedrock of our faith can be tested when the going gets tough. I remember a picture of my mother and her family next to a car circa the 1930’s. They drove from Oklahoma to Wyoming in that small car. It held seven children and two adults. I believe God rescued, renewed and redeemed her family giving them a new start in Wyoming.
What drives us to take refuge in the Lord?
Resting in Him,
