Hebrews 10:24-25 NIV 2011
And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.
The author of Hebrews, like Paul in Romans, called all believers to encourage one another. Romans 1:12, “that is, that you may be mutually encouraged by each other’s faith.” Acts 2:42, “They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.” Those who followed Christ were held to a higher standard than the rest of the world; do not abandon or desert other believers. 2 Corinthians 4:9, “persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed.” God calls believers to consistently encourage one another.
Spending time with sisters and nieces to celebrate one sister’s birthday was special time spent this evening. We talked, laughed and encouraged one another sharing a meal together. Staying connected with family is good. As friends we need to encourage one another. We really don’t know everyone’s back-story. Chatting with a friend this afternoon I learned some information, a back-story that “filled in the blanks” for me. How often do we become consumed with petty grievances, forgetting to come along side those who need our encouragement? Being a cheerleader is my life long assignment. I’m called to encourage other believers daily.
How will we share encouraging words today?
