James 4:8 NKJV 1982
Draw near to God and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, youdouble-minded.
As a leader in the church at Jerusalem, James wrote his letter to the Jewish Christians. He offered them some simple truths. Believers were to go to God at all times and be in fellowship with Him keeping each one close. Psalm 73:28, “But as for me, it is good to be near God.” David revealed those who stood before God were clean. Psalm 24:4, “The one who has clean hands and a pure heart…” Focused on God rather than the world, God’s people would look to Him rather than anywhere else. Believers are called to remain clean and close to God.
Drawing near to God is something I need to do by going to Him in prayer. Whether it’s sweet fellowship in the early morning, on a long walk or dropping to my knees when I’m in need of immediate direction, He is always waiting for me. Cleansing includes confession on a daily basis. Approaching God repentant and clean makes drawing near so much sweeter. There’ve been times when “littles” in my charge are unhappy whether away from parents or sad. Being one of His I confess my frustration as He cleanses me and then I draw near to Him in prayer.
How will you draw near to God during this holiday season?
Called to be clean and close to Him consistently,
