Exodus 13:17-18a NIV 2011
When Pharaoh let the people go, God did not lead them on the road through the Philistine country, though that was the shorter. For God said, “If they face war, they might change their minds and return to Egypt.” So God led the people around by the desert road toward the Red Sea.
God had a plan to bring His people out of Egypt. Some would say God’s route wasn’t the most direct route. God knew that fierce enemies awaited the direct route. Some might call it a divine detour. God knew His people and led them on His path. As Pharaoh pursued them they whined. Exodus 14:11, “What have you done to us by bringing us out of Egypt?” God did provide a way. Exodus 14:29, “But the Israelites went through the sea on dry ground.” God leads His people on His perfect path.
On my walk this morning, a small dog wearing a cone was ahead of me. I knew the dog was wandering but he was wandering on the opposite side of the road. I turned at the perfect spot. He spotted me. His feet began padding behind me as I continued walking. A quick call and my husband drove down to pick up the dog. He approached with a woman who’d been calling for her dog as he left home. I could have changed my path but daily God leads me perfectly.
How do we follow God’s path?
