Acts 20:28, Ephesians 5:26 NIV 2011
Keep watch over yourselves and all the flock of which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers. Be shepherds of the church of God, which he bought with his own blood.
Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her.
Luke records Paul’s farewell to the Ephesian Elders. Acts 20:22, “Now, compelled by the Spirit, I am going to Jerusalem, not knowing what will happen to me there.” Paul charged the elders of the church with shepherding the flock. He reminded them of Christ, the perfect lamb, God’s Son, shed His blood to save sinners. Paul’s Ephesian letter offered the model of a loving relationship between husbands and wives; it was reciprocal just as the love between Christ and His followers. God’s church is not a place for perfect people; it is the perfect place for Savior seeking sinners.
Sometimes it would frustrate me when someone would say, “I don’t go to church because the people there are all hypocrites.” Now it’s my opportunity to tell them they have the wrong impression. It’s actually filled with sinners in need of the Savior and I’m one of them. Those that aren’t following Jesus Christ have no idea the amazing Grace of our Great God. We probably look like hypocrites but we’re merely sinners worshiping together. Church is the perfect place for every single saved sinner.
How will you worship the Lord this week?
Daily thankful for Jesus,
