Zechariah 1:16-17 NIV 2011
“Therefore this is what the Lord says: ‘I will return to Jerusalem with mercy, and there my house will be rebuilt. And the measuring line will be stretched out over Jerusalem,’ declares the Lord Almighty.
“Proclaim further: This is what the Lord Almighty says: ‘My towns will again overflow with prosperity, and the Lord will again comfort Zion and choose Jerusalem.’”
Zechariah, God’s prophet, was born into a priestly family while in Babylonia. Returning to Judah, he encouraged those Jews that had returned to rebuild the temple and return to the Lord God. Repent, return and respond. Ezra 6:14, “So the elders of the Jews continued to build and prosper under the preaching of Haggai the prophet, and Zechariah, a descendant of Iddo.” God would bring them comfort. Isaiah 14:1, “The Lord will have compassion on Jacob; once again he will choose Israel and will settle them in their own land.” God is our Fountain.
For the past fifteen years, I have been a fanatic making sure I get in at least 60 ounces of water a day. When I think I’m hungry, I go for water first to see if that satisfies my need. Knowing this about myself, when I think I “need something” I’ll daily go to God’s Word for everything that I need. John 7:37b, “Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink.” The Lord will always be my Fountain.
How has God been your Fountain today?
No longer thirsty,
