1 Peter 1:13-14,16 NIV 2011
Therefore, with minds that are alert and fully sober, set your hope on the grace to be brought to you when Jesus Christ is revealed at his coming. As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance…”Be holy, because I am holy.”
The Apostle Peter called the readers to be mentally and physically ready for action. Jeremiah, God’s prophet, asked the Israelites to do the same. Jeremiah 1:17, “Get yourself ready! Stand up and say to them whatever I command you.” God’s grace was with the faithful as they walked by faith alone. Paul persistently called for all believers to obediently follow the Lord rather than the world. Romans 12:2, “Do not conform to the pattern of the world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” Verse 16, God’s holiness, is Peter’s quote of Leviticus 19:2. God’s grace is given freely to Jesus’ followers.
It was during Sunday school my teacher said, “God loves you.” Discovering over the years I’m not perfect and He doesn’t expect me to be was profound. Learning to live in the world but not be of the world is my quest. That’s a fine line, which I’m striving to walk daily. Faithfully spending time in His Word and prayer has helped keep me grounded. The day I decided to follow Jesus, He freely gave me His grace.
How do we model God’s grace to others?
