Luke 11:11-13 NIV 2011
“Which of you fathers, if you son asks for a fish, will give him a snake instead? Or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion? If you then, though you were evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him?”
Luke recorded Jesus’ words regarding how to pray. Jesus gave an example of how God hears and answers prayer. He also gave those listening a model for ways to pray boldly. Jesus ended with His charge for those listening to examine their motives when praying. God hears the prayers of His faithful but knows the heart behind the prayer. A parent would not short-change their child by not giving them what they need and neither does God. Those who follow Jesus need the Holy Spirit’s guidance. The Father gives the gift of the Holy Spirit.
A week serving in VBS revealed the Holy Spirit presences at work in my life along with the children and others serving daily. Luke 12:12, “for the Holy Spirit will teach you at that time what you should say.” This gift of the Holy Spirit given to those of us that believe in the finished work of Jesus Christ is perhaps of the greatest gift God gave to all believers. I’m thankful God gifted us the Holy Spirit.
How is the Holy Spirit working today?
