Leviticus 11:44, 1 Peter 1:13 NIV 2011
“…and be holy, because I am holy.”
Therefore, with minds that are alert and fully sober, set your hope on the grace to be brought to you when Jesus Christ is revealed at his coming. “Be holy, because I am holy.”
The Lord instructed Moses and Aaron how to be holy. Leviticus 11:43, “Do not defile yourselves by any of these creatures.” They were to consecrate themselves to the Lord because He’d blessed and delivered them from Egypt. God is holy. Psalm 99:3, “Let them praise your great and awesome name—he is holy.” The apostle Peter knew the Lord was holy. Jesus was God with skin on and the perfect man for believers to follow and model. At salvation all are born again into the family of God. Minds set on Jesus Christ lead saved sinners toward holiness.
God’s Word consistently tells us we are called to live holy lives. 1 Thessalonians 4:7, “For God did not call us to be impure, but to live a holy life.” The older I get, I can appreciate that challenge. I finally realized I was not perfect nor could I ever be. That’s not what I’m called to be. He wants my life to reflect Him and that’s what makes me holy. Jesus Christ paid the price for my sins, past, present and future. I’m led daily toward holiness following Jesus.
How does following Jesus lead us toward holiness?
