1 Timothy 1:15b-16 NIV2011

Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners—of which I am the worst. But for you that very reason I was shown mercy so that in me, the worst of sinners, Christ Jesus might display his immense patience as an example for those who would believe in him and receive eternal life.

Paul’s first letter to a close associate of his, Timothy, was written with instructions for the growing church at Ephesus. Revealing God’s great grace Paul was given, “I am the worst,” would hearten the young believers in Timothy’s care. The Lord called Paul as He called others to repentance. Paul knew first hand about repentance. Romans 2:4, “Or do you show contempt for the riches of his kindness, forbearance and patience, not realizing that God’s kindness is intended to lead you to repentance?” God displays His endless mercy and kindness as He patiently waits.

Patience can be in short supply for the world in which we now reside. It reminds me of a song “Patience” sung by Herbert the Snail in Music Machine. It’s a sweet reminder for those of us that are in a hurry to complete a task. I’m so thankful God is not in a hurry. He has immeasurable amounts of patience with me which never ceases to amaze me. It’s what the Father has for each of us daily. I must follow His model of and wait patiently for others to arrive.

Who needs our patience today?

Patiently waiting like Him,

S
