Zephaniah 2:3, Romans 12:10, 16a and c NIV 2011
Seek the Lord, all you humble of the land, you who do what he commands.
Seek righteousness, seek humility, perhaps you will be sheltered on the day of the Lord’s anger.
Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves.
Do not be proud… Do not be conceited.
The prophet Zephaniah challenged the people to repent for judgment was coming. Even though it would arrive sooner rather than later he reminded them to seek the Lord and his righteousness in the spirit of humility. They needed to rid their lives of idols. Paul asked the faithful to be humble when serving the Body of Christ. He offered fair warning of the results if humility was not in their heart. God calls the faithful to live lives with humility.
The older I get, the more I see how pride filled I can be at times. That pride continues to get in the way of my closer walk with Jesus. Thankfully, He’s not done with me yet. Sometimes He closes my mouth before I speak and other times I’ve said something before He stops me. Those are the times I need to seek His guidance, repent and humbly ask forgiveness from those I’ve wronged. It’s not easy but necessary to do. The Lord continues to be with me when I daily seek to live with humility.
Where do you see God humbling you?
