Ephesians 2:1, Colossians 2:13b-14 NIV 2011
As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sin.
He forgave us our sins, having canceled the charge of our legal indebtedness, which stood against us and condemned us; he has taken it away, nailing it to the cross.
Paul reiterated the moral and spiritual condition, which separates all sinners from God. Colossians 1:21, “Once you were alienated from God and were enemies in your minds because of your evil behavior.” God’s solution was the Savior. Ephesians 4:32, “Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.” Every sin/debt needed to be paid in full. 1 Peter 2:24, “‘He himself bore our sins’ in his body on the cross so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; ‘by his wounds you have been healed.’” Sins are forgiven when nailed to the cross.
Day two with my friend was awesome. We had time to catch up on the major events in each other’s lives for the past many years. The friendship forged long ago remained the same. She reminded me of a talk I’d given for our women’s Bible study about sin. She has Colossians 2:14 marked in her Bible and always thinks of me when she reads it. I’d brought a 2X4 with nails and a hammer. Driving the nails, I stated, “Sins are forgiven when nailed to the cross.”
What sins need nailing today?
God forgives our sins daily,
