Philippians 3:13-14 NIV 2011
Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.
Paul began a discourse regarding his confidence in Christ in verse seven of this chapter ending with these two verses. He was still working on being more like Christ. That’s the same desire He had for the church in Philippi. Paul continued to remind the church that he was a sinner just as all are but through Christ they all had been forgiven and were saved. Paul then ended as he continued to press on toward his ultimate goal, eternity spent with Christ. Those who are called press on toward the ultimate prize found through faith in Christ.
Life is a series of races we run going from sprint after spring. The key is to keep my eye on the prize. Living in the world we live today tells us the prize is having “things.” I’ve learned along my journey, “things” will never satisfy my thirst. We are each created to thirst for Him alone. Daily meeting with Him here helps me keep my eye on the prize. With my eyes on Him, I will press on toward the ultimate goal, sharing with others how to spend eternity with Him.
Where is our focus?
