Romans 15:12-13 NIV 2011

And again, Isaiah says, “The Root of Jesse will spring up, one who will arise to rule over the nations; in him the Gentiles will hope.”

May the God of hope fill you with joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Paul shared Jesus’ lineage, reminding the church in Rome Jesus was from the “Root of Jesse.” Jesse was the father of David and Jesus’ many great grandfather. Matthew 1:1, “Jesus the Messiah, the Son of David.” He came first to the Jews and then the Word was to be taken to the Gentiles. Paul and Jesus’ disciples carried the Good News to the Gentiles. God used the power of the Holy Spirit to prepare the hearts of believers. Hope for a Believer is found in Jesus Christ alone.

I love the Hymn “My Hope Is Built on Nothing Less” written in 1834 by Edward Mote. Grace in times of trouble and ultimately the grace of God is manifest in Jesus. It has been an inspiration in times of trouble and calm, gently reminding me where to find my hope. The Holy Spirit prepared my heart to accept Christ as my Savior. Whatever is happening in my life, daily I see Him to work there because “my hope is built on nothing less than Jesus blood and righteousness.”

How will we share our hope is built on Christ?

Nothing less,

S
