Lamentations 3:24-26 NIV 2011
I say to myself, “The Lord is my portion; therefore I will wait for him.
The Lord is good to those whose hope is in him to the one who seeks him; it is good to wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord.
Jeremiah is credited with writing Lamentations. He lamented the devastation the Babylonians wreaked on the city of Jerusalem. Jeremiah’s words reveal he knew all he needed was the Lord. David had a similar relationship with the Lord. Psalm 142:6, “I cry to you, Lord, I say, ‘You are my refuge, my portion in the land of the living.’” Jeremiah and David both knew the Lord was good. Psalm 34:8, “Taste and see that the Lord is good…” Isaiah knew God was trustworthy, 26:3, “You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you.” The Lord sustains and preserves all who place their trust in Him.
Moving again after turning eight, I remember memorizing Proverbs 3:5-6 for Sunday school. “Trust in the Lord…he will make your paths straight.” My sweet younger sister sang the refrain “Trust and Obey” as we drove home from church. If unfamiliar with the song a quick search of Google will give you the lyrics. In my mind I picture David, Isaiah and Jeremiah all humming that same melody. Daily the Lord sustains and preserves us because we trust in Him.
How will we trust and obey Him today?
Happy in Jesus,
