1 Timothy 6:11, 2 Timothy 3:16-17 NIV 2011
But you, man of God, flee from all this, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness.
All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
Paul’s letter included instructions for Timothy’s ministry in Ephesus who was God’s choice to lead the church. 2 Timothy 3:17, “So that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.” Paul’s reference to Scripture was the Old Testament, inspired by God alone. 2 Peter 1:20, “Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet’s own interpretation of things.” Discipline with Scripture through the Holy Spirit ’s power was the key to Timothy’s success in guiding the church. God gives guidance for specific reasons.
When I began to attend a new church after moving to Ohio, it was exactly where God guided me. I read the statement of faith and listened to the sermons each Sunday for affirmation. It was indeed where He’d called me to be. I was asked to help in the nursery and did. Two years later I attended a greeter orientation and ended up as a team lead. It was definitely God guiding me to serve for a specific reason. He again guided me to a small group for a specific reason.
Where is God guiding you today?
Thankful daily for God’s guidance,
