Matthew 18:1-3 NIV 2011

At that time the disciples came to Jesus and asked, “Who, then, is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?”

He called a little child to him, and placed the child among them. And he said: “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.”

The disciples were seeking information from Jesus. Luke’s gospel called it an argument, Luke 9:48, “An argument started among the disciples as to which of them would be the greatest.” Jesus answered in verse 4, “Therefore, whoever takes the lowly position of a child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.” They missed the one important word Jesus gave, change. He consistently gave them godly standards to follow and yet, they missed that point. They needed to make changes becoming like little children. Eternal life is given to those who make life changes and follow Jesus.

“But if nothing changes, nothing changes.” When I fail to live up to the standard Christ has set for me, I need to change. Throughout God’s Word are found lessons that show me God’s people are in need of change, basically their ungodly behavior. I need to be flexible and willing to make changes in my life by taking the actions needed to effect that change. Daily, there are opportunities for change. Following Jesus was the best change I decided to make.

When change is needed, are you flexible?

Joyfully making changes,
