Romans 14:17, 19 NIV 2011
For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking, but of righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.
Let us therefore make every effort to do what leads to peace and to mutual edification.
The members of God’s church in Rome were called to righteous living. That included living in peace with one another. Romans 5:1, “Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.” Their peace would reflect the fruits of the Spirit. Galatians 6:22, “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.” The Holy Spirit was leading them to pass the Spirit’s fruit to others. Romans 15:2, “For each of us should please our neighbors for their good, to build them up.” God’s gift of the Holy Spirit knits believers together in harmony.
The work I’ve seen women do with knitting needles and yarn is astounding. I can knit and pearl but choose a needle and thread over knitting. I’m glad the Lord is a master at knitting because He daily knits me back together. Through texts and the weekly newsletter, I remain connected with my church in Ohio. Meeting here each day, we’re linked by sharing God’s word. In each case we remain one in the Spirit through our relationship with Christ. The Holy Spirit knits us together.
Why does the Spirit knit us together?
Spirit filled believers,
